Here we are in the middle of summer and most of us have barely had time to catch our breaths since Convening Leaders 2022 in Las Vegas. So much has happened in your PCMA community and we’ve got more to share with you in the coming weeks and months.

We are announcing PCMA Recovery Discovery, a seven-month global campaign of business event research, reskilling development, event experimentation and new PCMA product releases for business events stakeholders culminating with a redesigned Convening Leaders 2021 experience in Houston.

The events surrounding Mr. Floyd’s death are a chilling reminder of how much work we all still have to do around discrimination, human dignity and respect.  The demonstrations at home and in communities around the world are a cry for us to move from talk to action.

The senseless murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis is a barbaric example of the continued injustice and discrimination that must stop. Now.

If you’re reading this on May 20, it has now been 100 days since your PCMA leaders and management team began considering a response to the impact of COVID-19 on our PCMA community and for the larger global business events industry.

Like the global PCMA Team and so many of our members, I observed Global Meetings Industry Day from home, with family nearby. There were three takeaways from that day that have stayed with me:

Today I ask that you amplify our efforts by contacting your legislators about the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which is undergoing revisions in the U.S. Senate and is likely to return to the U.S. House of Representatives soon. Modifications to the CARES Act are crucial to ensure a stronger recovery for our industry.

As the COVID-19 crisis continues to unfold, we remain steadfast in our commitment to be the voice for the global business events community. I have co-signed a letter with the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) asking the United States Department of the Treasury for financial assistance in the form of a comprehensive economic package specifically for people in the travel, hospitality and business events industries.

For the world, the past few weeks have been unprecedented, as we see the global toll COVID-19 has taken.

For the business events industry, the disruption has been profound. Like you, we’re experiencing the stress of the unknown and upheaval in our work and personal lives, as we also worry about and care for our family members, friends, neighbors and colleagues.
